Glaucoma – The Silent Vision Killer

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide. It is often called the “silent vision killer” because it develops gradually without noticeable symptoms in the early stages. This condition damages the optic nerve, usually due to increased pressure inside the eye.
One of the most dangerous aspects of glaucoma is that vision loss starts from the peripheral (side) vision and slowly progresses toward central vision. By the time a person notices the problem, significant damage may have already occurred. Risk factors include ageing, family history, diabetes, and high eye pressure.
Although glaucoma cannot be completely cured, it can be effectively managed if detected early. Treatment options include medicated eye drops, laser therapy, or surgery to control eye pressure. Regular eye exams are the best way to detect glaucoma early and protect your vision.
